Amazon is addressing the Kindle ’s biggest problem – though not entirely. The company has launched a host of new Kindle e-readers, re-designing them to make them smaller and lighter. It has updated its base Kindle with a new design, as well as new versions of its easier-to-read Kindle Paperwhite and a new Kindle Colorsoft that has a colour display.

But perhaps the biggest change comes with a host of new accessories that return a long-mourned experience back to Amazon’s e-readers. Users can finally actually click to turn pages. The launch of the new models also comes with the Kindle Click, a bluetooth remote that lets people turn their page from afar, and works with all Kindles going back to 2024 .

And it also introduces a Page-Turn cover that sits around the Kindle and allows users to press built-in buttons to switch pages , which is only compatible with the latest and higher-priced models. Early Kindles all included buttons on their side to let users turn the page. Amazon phased out that functionality over time, and the final model to have it was the expensive Oasis that was discontinued in 2024.

Since then, some readers have complained that they have been forced to instead press the screen to turn pages, interrupting the reading experience and making for a less ergonomic experience. Amazon has previously suggested that insufficient users actually wanted those page turn buttons – though readers have argued that was a result of them only being available on the higher-end, dramatically more expensive models . Now, Amazon appears to have recognised those readers with the new accessories.

“Reading is an immersive, joyous experience, and we’ve watched Kindle fans engineer their own reading setups for years—propping devices on pillows, rigging phone stands as makeshift docks, and hunting for the easiest possible page turn. We designed a system for the people who take their reading experience as seriously as we do,” it said in the announcement of the new accessories.
